Venezuela Theme night

With the holidays upon us we finished up the term with another theme night for our country study.
This month we were studying Venezuela! It was our brother in laws birthday so we surprised him by taking him to another country and treating him with their best and tastiest meals!
Mum joined in on the preparation and altogether we had a great night!
We made a HUGE flag and wrote on it Happy Birthday in Spanish (that's the language they speak there) and also Welcome to Venezuela. The girls loved the Venezuelan costumes with big flowers and long, full skirts.

Food was yummy and company wonderful, it was another great country night!

German themed night

We study a country each month that is randomly picked out of our Brain Box All around the World. We have just finished Germany and celebrated with our countries theme night! It was such a success, we all LOVED the goodies from Germany!!
Schnitzel, fried cabbage,  Black forest Cake, Apple strudel...... YUMMY!!!

 Beautiful German girls
 Yum, yum Main course
More yum, yum ... apple strudel and Black Forest cake
Then afterwards there was a German dance show!

One of my FAVOURITE parts of these nights is when Allan (my super man) finds some traditional music from that country. (German dance  HERE.) Oh this time around it was completely wonderful! The GIRLS LOVED EVERY MINUTE of the music and joy of dancing the steps!!

I have to say, though these nights take some huge amount of preparation they really are such a fun part of our Homeschooling journey! It stretches me to cook new things which is a good thing and helps us all learn some extra cool things about the country of the month.
This month we have Nigeria,

South Africa theme night

About every month we have a little theme night to end the country the children have been studying. We have had 4 nights now (still need to share those) and the last one we had was a South African night!

We get dressed up, Allan finds some traditional music to play in the background over dinner and I cook some traditional meals from the region!! I LOVE Google!! All you need to do is type in "traditional .... insert country......meals" and you have a WONDERFUL list of recipes to view!!
Our menu consisted of
*Cabbage side dish
*Frikadelles (meat balls)
*assorted vegetables
*Melktert (Milk Tart)

We really enjoyed the food and have a wonderful evening in South Africa!!
