Penguin Art fun for kids {Arctic and Antarctica Unit study}

Here is another fun activity suitable for ALL ages to go along nicely with our Arctic and Antarctica study. I found this idea HERE

Hannah isn't a big fan of painting... but she LOVES to paint backgrounds!!

All the penguins pieces ready to assemble.

 Sapphire's finished Penguin
 Esther's finished Penguin
Hannah's Finished Penguin Mother and baby.
Sophia made two, her fav is the Mother and baby one
From my youngest at 2 1/2 to my oldest at 14 everyone had a wonderful time creating their backgrounds, making their penguins and designing their scene!! It was sooo great to see them all come to life!

Polar Bear cupcakes (Arctic and Antartica unit study)

With a wonderful theme of SNOW and Ice and all that goes with that we had HEAPS of fun coming up with treats for Tea Party Thursday.
Here is one of those ideas..... The cute Polar Bear and Walrus cupcakes!!!!

 (inspiration HERE & HERE)

Sophia loves cooking with me on Thursdays, especially when she gets to be arty with our treats!

Hannah is a fan of chocolate cupcakes and Zeke vanilla so we made a perfect mix of both to keep everyone happy! Let me tell you they were totally delicious!! LOVED every bite!

Arctic and Antarctica Unit study

We have been doing HEAPS this term on SNOW! With such a wonderful theme I opened it up to studying and looking at the Arctic and Antarctica. So with the older ones doing projects and research on places with the most snow fall and the like I had a little set up for the younger girls to play with.

Sapphire has LOVED this!! She is learning what animals live where and all about the North and South Pole. Esther and Sapphire have had HEAPS of play time with the animals which I have enjoyed greatly, watching their imagination come to life!
The simple Arctic scene was made with a cardboard box, cut in the appropriate glacier shapes, then painted white! Easy!! (idea HERE for background and HERE for trees)

Boo to a Goose craft activity- Virtual Book club Mem Fox

We have a new author to focus on at Virtual Book Club for the month of May (yes I know that's already passed.....sadly I missed the link but still wanted to share....) the very clever Mem Fox!
(the goose that Esther drew while waiting for me to cut out feathers!
Note: the goose is sticking out it's tongue!)
She has LOADS of wonderful books for children, some of which are Sapphire's absolute fav (mine too if i was honest!!) Where is the Green Sheep is most certainly one of them followed closely by Time for Bed!!
SO with books on the table and art to be had we decided to make some 3D animals!! Our inspiration was from another Mem Fox book called "Boo to a Goose" with amazing 3D illustrations by David Miller.

Zeke and Hannah were keen to make their own "here is the ...... Sheep" and Sophia and Esther got busy making a goose. I helped the girls cut and make LOTS and LOTS of feathers for their geese and when Esther saw the picture of the baby goose (now she knows it's called a gosling) with her Mummy she wanted to make a gosling too!
Both geese are made from paper plates, Esther's one is from HERE and Soph just made it up.

I helped her with the neck and head, she did the beak. I love that she added grey feathers for the tail and that Esther wanted to have her gosling tucked under the Mummy's wing keeping safe!! SOoo precious!
Sophia's finished goose!
Zeke's sheep is a "here is a SUPER SHEEP!!" complete with all his insides!! Why do you ask??

Last week the older children went to a science class a local school hold and there they learnt all about sheep hearts and livers (it was a dissecting lesson... YUCK!!!) and so he jumped online and got the diagram and made all the working bits for his super sheep!! His sheep is sooo super his insides are human!! AWESOME!!!

Hannah has a "here is the Rock Star sheep!" She took her inspiration from Wildstyle from The Lego Movie, added some punk looking makeup and a very groovy guitar!! LOVE IT!

Next month we are looking at the famous Eric Carl!! Until then,

Frog craft for children - Egyptian Unit study (animals in the Nile)

We will be continuing our Egyptian Unit study for a few more weeks into this term and I still have lots more to show you! For the little girls we looked at animals that live in the Nile River! FROGS are one of those and so a frog craft (which also worked well when they came up again in the 10 plagues) was in order!
It was just meant to be some froggie puppets (from HERE under frog's eggs!)

but in the end Sophia and Esther's imagination went wild and a puppet theatre complete with log and pond was created!!!!
Well then the "5 little speckled frog" song was sung over and over and Mummy couldn't have been happier!!
