Dancing Corn experiment (great for Harvest/Autumn)

With the cooler months here and some more fun to be had with corn, the children and I did a Dancing corn experiment! It was SOOOO successful, we all loved it! SO much so that we demonstrated it at the Children's Home school show and tell Morning tea here in Poatina!
All the directions and what to do are from the link.... give it a go it's a real WINNER!!!
Everyone took it in turns to stir or add ingredients.

 Is it dancing yet???
 Now to add the vinegar.....
Can you see the excitement in Sophia's face now that
something unexpected has began to happen!!
Now look at the joy! LOVE THIS!! We have clapping!

We all watched it for ages, little corn kernels dancing around in the jar!
Gotta have more fun science days like this.... ROLL on the new term!

Wonderful World Wednesday-Autumn outing

Autumn really is my absolute favourite time of the year! So with all the leaves looking sooo amazing we had to get out and enjoy some of the sunny weather while we can! The Gorge in Launceston is one of the best picks for Autumn splendor!
I sooo love that Esther and Sapphire are holding hands, so precious!

 Found some fun helicopter seeds!!
We all love these!
 Great example of wild mushrooms
growing in the moist, damp ground.
The children and I were all trying to catch the falling leaves!
It's sooo much fun!
Hannah and Zeke caught 5
Sophia, Esther and I caught 1.

We even spotted Peacocks and wallabies!
Wednesday's are one of my favourite days in the week, I hope you have a wonderful one too!

Autumn crowns - leaf craft for children

Our wonderful girls are soooo amazing!! (as of course is our son!) Just the other day we all went to the park and I collected some leaves, I LOVE AUTUMN and collecting leaves is a MUST!!!It 's like picking flowers without getting into trouble!!! hee he
As the afternoon progressed Esther came up to me with the usual comment.....
"Mummy what can I do??" I usually tell her go and draw or read a book... but this time I said, "Why don't you look at the leaves Mummy collected and sort them out into colours and sizes or what leaves you think belong together!!"
She was super excited and run to the play room to do exactly that!! (YAY!) After awhile she sang out saying that she wanted to make a crown with the leaves! WOW!!! Well you can imagine that the mention of that soon had Hannah and Sophia eagerly joining in!! It wasn't long before (with help from me with the Hot glue gun!) They came up with their own Nature Masterpieces!!!

Off to the dress up box for some co-ordinating costumes and they were all outside, dancing around with their very amazing Autumn Crowns!!!!
( I gotta say it inspired me sooo much I made one too!!)
Don't you just LOVE IT when your treasures use their imagination, crafty ability and surprise you with it all!!

Autumn hand print craft for children

Before the cold creeps in too much here in Tassie I wanted to share one of the many wonderful craft ideas that the children and I did together. This one I found and Pinned it HERE but of course added my stamping flare to it. I love what the children came up with especially the wind blown leaves.

How are you finding the Winter now it's here?? Any cool craft ideas you have?? I've been looking but it's sooo hard to find one's that are relevant to Australian winters.... the search will continue!!

Autumn time display

With my absolute FAVOURITE time of the year here I've been setting up some learning centers for the children. I've borrowed some books from the library, put out some paper and crayons for rubbings (already been used!!) and made a beautiful display of Autumn colour that I picked up from around our neighbour-hood!

Then near the Kitchen I have another small display of branches from deciduous trees with the word spelled out in scrabble letters! I love this idea, I saw this in a cute little gift shop last year in Penguin!
Are you enjoying this wonderous time of the year??? Ohhh I am!!!!!

Autumn time.... My Favourite!

I do LOVE Autumn!! I've recently joined in on the Pinterest fun and found this wonderful quote....

"Every leaf speaks bliss to me, fluttering from the Autumn tree" Emily Bronte

I want to do an Autumn page for the month of May on my calender and so "told" everyone what to wear, drove to a pretty Autumn tree spot and took some photo's ready to scrap! Until I get the page done I wanted to share with you some of the pictures from the day..... Oh how blessed I am to have such an amazing family to love!!!

I hope that you too are able to enjoy some "Autumn" time and take in the wonder of the trees and all the beauty of this amazing season!

Oh how I love Autumn!

I took the children to the park this morn for a picnic lunch. Ohhhh how the sun is shinning soooo wonderfully and the leaves sooo brilliant in all their glory, it was a must to be out in nature today!

Riding down the hill at full speed, so much so I nearly missed Zeke in the photo!

Now for the wonder of the trees

How is it that the same tree, in this case an Oak can have completely different leaf colours??

Is it the position?
The soil?
Different stages in the leaf breaking down?

Can anyone let us know??!!

My favourite, the Liquid Amber

Esther discovering too

We hope you've enjoyed the sunshine too today!
