Cave Painting for kids (History craft)

With a new History curriculum that I've just started with the children (which by the way we are LOVING!!!) We've been looking at the Ice Age and Dinosaurs and Noah and more......
It came to me that for Art this Friday we would make a cave (like HERE) and do some cave paintings!! WOW the children were soooo excited!! That of course makes for a happy homeschooling Mummy!!

I suggested that they could "draw" under the table, similar to how early man/woman would have done it! Zeke and Sophia jumped in for that..... as did Sapphire, well she jumped on Soph more to the point!!! hee he!

 Sophia's finished cave art
 Zeke's Wolly Rhino cave painting

Hannah went to drawing straight on the "cave" sides.......
A cave being drawn complete with family

To finish their art off I sprayed over their hands to mark it like a signature (saw that idea HERE) The cave is proving to be a HUGE hit, even our new kitten loves the russle of the paper cave walls!! Who would have thought History could be sooo fun!!!

DIY Terrariums {perfect party favours for a woodland party!}

Gardening is a whole lot of fun!! There's dirt, there's learning, there's Nature!!
For my birthday back in May (see HERE) I wanted to make for each of my guests something special to take home after my party in the Forest! Terrariums was the perfect gift!! I searched the net for many a design and idea and in the end came up with wanting to make little mushrooms and filling the jar itself with moss and lichen covered sticks!
We went hunting for the moss locally and the sticks too and then with all our supplies gathered got to work on making 15 terrariums!!

The children LOVED it, and Sophia in particular had a real flare for details and adding just the right stick or moss!

We were all sooo excited about the process that we had to make more and so the extras now sit happily on our outdoor table.
I would have to recommend to anyone to give them a try, terrariums really are sooo simple to make and the end results are truly wonderful!

South Africa theme night

About every month we have a little theme night to end the country the children have been studying. We have had 4 nights now (still need to share those) and the last one we had was a South African night!

We get dressed up, Allan finds some traditional music to play in the background over dinner and I cook some traditional meals from the region!! I LOVE Google!! All you need to do is type in "traditional .... insert country......meals" and you have a WONDERFUL list of recipes to view!!
Our menu consisted of
*Cabbage side dish
*Frikadelles (meat balls)
*assorted vegetables
*Melktert (Milk Tart)

We really enjoyed the food and have a wonderful evening in South Africa!!
